Balancing plug-ins give you more control over file placement and organization on your pool.

Plug-ins

Balancing plug-ins require DrivePool 1.2.0.6817 or later.

Disk Space Equalizer

Version: 1.0.0.1

Download: DrivePool.DiskSpaceEqualizerPlugin.Setup_1.0.0.1.wssx

This plug-in is a simple disk space equalizer. It will equalize the used space across all your pooled disks.

It can work in 2 modes:

  • Equalize by free space remaining - It will try to make the free space on all your pooled disks the same.
  • Equalize by percent used space. - It will try to make the percent of disk space used the same across all the disks.

Notes

  • This is an aggressive balancing plug-in, in the sense that it will always want your disk space to be equalized. It has no thresholds. You can tweak the automatic balancing triggers to set up appropriate triggering conditions in order to tell DrivePool how often you would like to balance.
  • This plug-in will override any balancing requests from all the plug-ins below it.
  • It does not take real-time file placement limits into account. If you would like to limit file placement, make sure that the file placement limiter is above this balancer.

Archive Optimizer

Version: 1.0.0.1

Download: DrivePool.ArchiveOptimizerPlugin.Setup_1.0.0.1.wssx

With this plug-in you designate one or more disks as special Feeder disks.

Feeder disks will receive all new files created on the pool.

It will be the balancer's job to move all the files from the Feeder disks to the Archive disks in the background.

You can use this plug-in to designate one or more fast disks as special feeder disks in order to improve write performance.

Notes

  • Any time the feeder disks will have data on them your pool condition will be below 100% because those files have been scheduled to be moved off those disks on the next balancing run. This is normal.
  • If you are using duplicated files, then you should specify at least 2 Feeder disks or else the system will fall back to an Archive disk (for one of the 2 file parts) when creating a new duplicated file.
  • Because this plug-in is very specialized, it should generally be used by itself.

How to Use the Plug-ins
